Instructor: Sayyidah Shahnaze Safieddine
What does it mean to be a “good” person in Islam? What does it mean to be “noble”? This course explores the importance of attaining moral excellence and how it can be achieved. Do we strive for virtuous qualities, accumulate good actions, or both?
Our study begins with an overview of the definition of akhlaq (character) and its purpose, the process of self-purification (tazkiyah), as well as the cultivation of virtues and removal of vices. In this first part of the series (101), we will dissect select qualities that play a key role in our self-development.
Attendance, punctuality, and participation are requirements for any effective course. More than one unexcused absence may be grounds for withdrawal. Students are expected to report anticipated absences as early as possible.
